Tranmere Rovers win fifth successive Family Excellence Award

Tranmere Rovers have won 'The Football League Family Excellence Award' for a fifth successive season.

The Football League introduced the accolade in 2007, deciding it using 'mystery shopper' families sent to all 72 League clubs throughout the season.

Rovers, who were judged to provide an "outstanding" experience for young supporters and families, are one of nine clubs to receive the award for five years on the bounce.

The Prenton Park outfit also made the shortlist for Family Club of the Year at the Football League Awards earlier this season.

Tranmere Rovers Chief Executive Mick Horton said: "We take our commitment to providing value for money for families very seriously so we are delighted to win the Football League Family Excellence Award again.

"We're especially pleased to be one of such a small number of clubs to have won the award every year since it was introduced.

"The awards were announced at a Football League meeting today where we were asked to speak about a DVD we have made to help new supporters visiting Prenton Park for the first time, something which played a part in the Club achieving the award once again.

"This award recognises the hard work we put in throughout the season to make Prenton Park a family friendly venue and we're looking at ways to further improve the matchday experience next season."

Tranmere rounded off the 2011/2012 season with a 1-1 draw against Scunthorpe United, ensuring a 12th place finish in League One.
