Tranmere Rovers left-back David Buchanan has been named as the club's Player of the Season for 2011-12.

The 26-year-old, who beat Owain Fon Williams and John Welsh to the gong, was presented with the accolade before Saturday's 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United.

Buchanan said: "I want to thank all the fans who voted for me, it means a lot to me.

"I couldn't have asked for anything more. I came in at the start of the season and people didn't know too much about me.

"Obviously the fans have taken to me and they've been brilliant all season. Since Ronnie has come in the team have kicked on, we've been hard to beat and it has been great to keep so many clean sheets."

Danny Holmes, who has been linked with a summer move to Glasgow Rangers, picked up this season's Young Player of the Year award for his performances at right-back.

Buchanan's long-range strike against Leyton Orient in August also earned him Goal of the Season for 2011-12.

Saturday's result ensured a 12th place finish in League One for Tranmere.
