Les Parry is hopeful that Tranmere Rovers will be able to convince local defender David Raven to sign for the club.
The Wirral born defender has been training with Tranmere during pre-season as he looks to maintain his fitness whilst searching for a new club.
A product of the Liverpool academy system, Raven made one league appearance for the club, before being loaned out to Rovers during the 2005/2006 season, where he played 11 times.
Now 26, he has a wealth of Football League experience behind him, having turned out 150 times for Carlisle United.
He spent last season at Shrewsbury Town, but injuries restricted him to just 22 appearances.
With such experience, Tranmere have been priced out of a move for him due to his wage demands. Despite this, Parry has had no problem in playing him in the club's pre-season friendlies.
The right sided defender played against Marine and Altrincham last week and the Tranmere boss is hoping if nobody else comes in, they might be able to secure his services on a permenent deal.
"David is still looking for a club and I have asked him to keep us informed if another club comes in for him.
"I would like to keep David and while he is here there is a chance we will be able to."
Tranmere take on a Manchester United XI at Prenton Park on Wednesday and Parry will be looking for a much improved performance from his squad after Saturday's disappointing 2-0 defeat against Altrincham.
Kick off for the game is 7.30 and tickets are priced at £8 for adults and £3 for juniors (under 16s).
