Les Parry has confirmed he is interested in signing Derry City centre half Mark McCrystal following a successful trial.
The Rovers manager has recently seen his options at the back boosted by the return of the experienced Marlon Broomes, and with Ash Taylor returning to training it seems the Wirral side have a number of options in that area.
Nevertheless, Parry was impressed by McCrystal and is now looking into signing him in the January window.
He said: "Mark did well. We're going to see if we can do something with him.
"He can't sign until the 1st of January anyway- he's out of contract now with Derry City but with the transfer window he's not able to sign."
Currently Rovers have both Nick Wood and on-loan Jermaine Grandison as cover at centre half, but it would appear Parry is looking longer term.
At 26, McCrystal has the benefit of a number of years experience over the likes of Wood and Taylor, while also being young enough that he could prove a long term replacement for veteran Ian Goodison.
Meanwhile Parry confirmed that fellow trialist Michael Borello has returned to Italy and will not be offered a deal.
