Parry: We let the shackles off

Les Parry was delighted with his side's performance as Tranmere Rovers came from behind to draw with league leaders Brighton.

After a hard fought first 30 minutes, Rovers fell behind to a wonder strike from Glenn Murray, but in a pulsating second half they fought back to level and could easily have come away with all three points.

Parry told Click Liverpool: "That's the eighth consecutive game we've scored in, and it shows what a resilient side we are.

"A lot of people thought after Colchester that we'd lose four in a row with the fixtures we had coming up.

"But that's four points from the last two now, and we'll be looking for more of the same next weekend against my old mate Nigel."

The Tranmere manager feels his side more than matched their high-flying opponents, and feels his tactical choices were more than justified by the end result.

He said: "We knew the way they would play, and worked on it.

"I asked Dale and Lucas to track their full backs first half as they like to push on, and I wanted us to keep them quiet - up to the goal, we were doing that, but we lost our shape from that point on.

"At half time, we let the shackles off, which was always the plan, and we gave them the freedom to have a little go."

And that decision worked wonders as Rovers time and again got round the back and put balls into the box, something that hadn't happened first half.

Parry, who picked out Cresswell and Showunmi for special praise after their impressive performances, also believes winger Lucas Akins is starting to show the fans what he can do after a quiet start to his Tranmere career.

He said: "I was delighted Lucas got one of the (suite) man of the match awards today.

"His problem has been that he hasn't been as decisive or as confident as we would like but that's starting to show now."

And Parry is now hoping his side can put a run of form together for the first time under his stewardship.

He said: "Everyone likes to get a run going. Once you put a run of results together you tend to pick up a few results you don't deserve, as Brighton nearly did today.

"I don't think we've won any game we didn't deserve since I took over, and it would be nice to see that happen."

Meanwhile Parry was delighted with the performance of new signing Scott Wootton, and claims it justifies his belief in not signing a player he hasn't seen play.

He added: "We've got two or three players lined up in each position should we need to bring anyone in.

"We're using the loan system to cover for injuries, and all the boys who have come in so far, Arnaud, Jermaine, Peter and now Scott have done a great job for us."
