Jamaican star Ian Goodison has signed an extended deal which will keep him at Tranmere till the end of next season.

The veteran defender, who has been with Rovers since 2004, is the most experienced player at the club and despite his advancing years remains a vital part of Tranmere's back line.

Manager Les Parry said: "I'm delighted Ian has agreed his contract extension.

"He's a very consistent performer, an excellent defender and someone who has become a firm fans' favourite during his time at the club.

"He's one of the best defenders in League 1 and it is great news for the club that he will be here for another season."

There had been recent speculation that Goodison was unhappy following Thomas-Moore's protracted transfer talks, in which the former captain was offered an extended contract earlier than originally planned.

And when Goodison failed to celebrate a goal at Walsall last month it seemed the rumours had substance.

But the announcement of the new deal will come as a relief to supporters, especially considering the lack of experience in a largely youthful side set up by Les Parry this season.

Last season the 38-year-old looked a shadow of his former self early on under John Barnes, but rediscovered his form under Parry and has started this season in typically dominant form.

Goodison said: "I'm pleased to have signed the extension.

"I love playing for Tranmere and have enjoyed the last six years at the club."
