Former Tranmere boss Ronnie Moore is on the verge of conceding defeat in the pursuit of his son Ian Thomas-Moore.
According to Moore, a deal is now unlikely with Rovers holding out for a price he is unwilling to pay.
He said: "Unless Tranmere change their tune quickly, I don`t see it happening.
"I think thirty grand is fair enough and I think they are being greedy really.
"But, you never know, they might have a change of heart and if they do it`s a deal we`d like to get done."
In this latest twist of the ongoing saga, it now appears Thomas-Moore will be staying at the Wirral club.
Tranmere manager Les Parry had previously labelled Rotherham's tactics as unprofessional, saying Thomas-Moore had been played 'like a fiddle.'
With a one-year extension at Tranmere still on the table, Parry will be hoping his hard-ball stance will pay off, having refused to give in to the striker's demands of a pay rise, and the boards insistence on any sale being done on their terms.
But with three hours left until the transfer deadline passes, their may still be a late twist in this drama.
