Yeovil 1 Tranmere Rovers 0 - Match Report

Tranmere Rovers' struggle for consistency at this crucial time of the season continued as Ed Upson's goal condemned them to a 1-0 defeat at Yeovil.

Rovers boss Ronnie Moore made two changes for the trip to Huish Park, bringing in Mamady Sidibe and Danny Holmes for Andy Robinson and Michael Kay.

The visitors started off on the back foot, with Paddy Madden firing an early warning shot wide after giving Zoumana Bakayogo the slip.

Tranmere threatened just after the half-hour mark through a Max Power free kick. The young midfielder's effort was heading for the top corner until home keeper Marek Stech tipped it behind.

Stech was called into action again in the 43rd minute, saving with his legs after French striker Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro linked up with Bakayogo and went for goal.

Tranmere had their shot-stopper to thank for keeping the scores level on the stroke of half time. Owain Fon Williams did well to deny Madden from 20 yards after he was teed up by strike partner James Hayter.

Both keepers had saves to make early in the second period. Stech kept out a looping header from Akpa Akpro, and Fon Williams produced an impressive block to prevent Madden from finding the top corner.

Moore's men shot themselves in the foot on 56 minutes when Holmes gave away a free kick in a shooting position, allowing Upson to curl one over the wall and beyond Fon Williams to make it 1-0.

Tranmere never looked like clawing their way back into the game as Yeovil pressed for a second, coming close to extending their lead through Daniel Burn and an acrobatic effort from Hayter.

Rovers did claim the final chance of the game, with Akpa Akpro heading over the bar from Holmes cross - a miss that summed up the striker and Tranmere's afternoon.
