England fans have their World Cup dreams shattered as their team were thrashed by Germany and dumped out of the tournament in Bloemfontein.
The epic encounter saw Germany demolish Fabio Capello's men with a 4-1 victory, which included a wrongly disallowed goal that would have prevented England completing a stunning comeback when the score stood at just 2-1.
Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda and his assistants were blind to a volley from midfeilder Frank Lampard that crossed the goal line and would have made it all square at half time.
Despite being on the end of an appauling referee blunder, England's woeful defending in the second half allowed the Joachim Loew's team to complete an embarrassing rout.
Germany completely outclassed Capello's team, which saw clinical strikes from Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podolski and two-goals from Thomas Muller, to send the three-times world champions through to the quarter-finals.
Even a repost from Matthew Upson, could not hide the glaring lack of basic defending errors which were severely punished by Germany.
England paid the price for sloppy defending, with central defenders John Terry and Upson having their immobility and communication exposed in embarrassing fashion.
Striker Wayne Rooney will return home having under performed at the World Cup and manager Fabio Capello must examine how England can move forward after being handed this painful lesson by Germany.
Captain Steven Gerrard said: "At 2-1 we were hurting them and we were still in the game."
"When you go 2-0 down and then you get a goal back it gives you a lot of confidence and belief and then to see that ball bounce behind the line and see the linesman 20 metres behind play is very disappointing."
"I think the disallowed goal had an effect but we cannot use that as an excuse with being beaten 4-1. That would have been a big goal for us. It's all ifs and buts. Germany are a fantastic team and they deserved their win."
Speaking about his position as England manager, Fabio Capello said: "I have time to decide [on his position as England manager], I have to speak with the chairman."
"We have to wait until we come back to London. I want to see if he still has confidence in me."
"I have to think about everything."
