Preparations are well under way ahead of the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament, which starts on Wednesday.

Lorry-loads of supplies, including thousands of tennis balls, sweat bands, towels and bottles of water, have been ferried to Calderstones Park for the players.

And to ensure the crowds of spectators are kept fed and watered at the pre-Wimbledon warm-up, 10,000 punnets of strawberries, 30,000 bottles of champagne and 2,000 litres of Pimms have been shipped in.

The four day event begins on Wednesday and is set to attract over 17,500 people to see tennis legends, John McEnroe, Martina Hingis and world number one doubles champions, the Bryan Brothers.

Tournament Director Anders Borg said “We’re delighted that the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament is such a success that we will welcome so many people to the sport.

“It’s very important that we put on a great show and make sure that our guests enjoy the whole experience. Champagne and strawberries are a huge part of that – let’s just hope we also get the weather!”

Tickets for the tournament are available from Ticketmaster on 0844 847 2332 or by logging onto www.liverpooltennis.co.uk
