On 25th May, the city centre will be taken over by high-powered supercars and racing bikes roaring down The Strand, as well as powerboats and jet-skis racing round the docks and even an aerobatic displays in the skies above.
The organisers of the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power hope to bring an incredible high-octane event, the likes of which Liverpool has never seen since it hosted the British Grand Prix in 1962.
Early estimates suggest over 20,000 spectators will flock to the spectacle spending a potential £500K over the one night alone.
Event director James Hall said: “We’re well into our third Pageant of Power at Cholmondeley Castle, in Cheshire. It’s an amazing show incorporating land, sea and air.
“We’ve got Le Mans and Grand Prix cars, Formula 2 & 4 powerboat racers as well as helicopters and amazing aerobatic displays and that’s exactly what we intend be bring to Liverpool."
The Strand will be closed after rush hour on Tuesday 25th May and the southbound side will be used for spectators while supercars burn rubber along the north bound stretch between the police headquarters and Mann Island.
Mr Hall added: “The Strand and the World Heritage waterfront is one of Europe’s most magnificent spaces. Liverpool couldn’t have been designed better for our land, sea and air displays.”
Although the full programme is yet to be finalised, some of the highlights on the track will include the Bentley Speed 8 –the Le Mans 24-hour race winner in 2003 – the Silk Cut Jaguar – Le Mans winner in 1988 – a supercharged Bentley Blower from 1926, and a JCB dragster capable of 100mph will make appearances.
The event will be hosted in partnership with Liverpool City Council, Grosvenor, Ernst & Young, Merseytravel and Liverpool ONE, which will celebrate its 2nd birthday the following week.
