A man has been stabbed tonight outside Upton Park, as ‘large-scale’ crowd trouble erupted during West Ham's Carling Cup game with Millwall.

A 44 year old man was stabbed in the chest on Priory Road, near Upton Park. It is understood he is in a stable condition.

Hundreds of fans were involved in the incident, which police say was caused by people travelling to the ground without tickets, and intentionally trying to start violence.

The stabbing incident was connected to the trouble and is being treated by paramedics. Police have made two arrests, once for one for disorder and the second for breach of a banning order.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan police said; "There is large-scale trouble involving hundreds of fans which we are dealing with at the moment,"

Pockets of violence began to appear throughout the clash at Upton Park, as rival fans taunted one another. Some supporters made it on to the pitch, as news of the violence filtered into stadium.
