Everton ladies manager Mo Marley believes the Blues players who represented England at the FIFA Women's World Cup did the club proud.
Four of Marley's girls, Rachel Brown, Rachel Unitt, Jill Scott and Fara Williams represented their country in Germany.
Their exit from the tournament was in a fashion familiar to the men's game with a cruel quarter-final defeat on penalties to France.
Despite the fallout from that drama being tainted by some uncomfortable accusations of cowardice after players refused to take kicks in the shootout, Marley said she was proud of her players' contribution.
She said: "Our girls conducted themselves exceptionally well during the tournament.
"I’m proud of their performances and the way they conducted themselves on and off the field.
“People will expect more from them now so let’s hope they can transfer their performances on the world stage to the Women's Super League.”
Everton currently sit fourth in the WSL, 10 points off leaders Birmingham.
Marley said that the focus for them now has to be to hit the ground running after the league's break up in May.
She said: "It’s been a long break since, everybody has been occupied in different ways so it’s nice to get back to week to week games.
"There’s a great team spirit and it’s nice to see big numbers back at training and it’s very competitive, they all want to play.
"It’s going to be another big test and the quality of this team has to show in the second part of the WSL."
Everton will face Chelsea, the team one place above them in the WSL, this Sunday.
