Tony Dodson Targeting European Boxing Union Title

Tony Dodson is readying himself for a shot at Danny McIntosh’s EBU light-heavyweight title following his Prizefighter heartbreak.

Sky Sports are said to be keen on the bout, and purse negotiations are now in progress.

The ‘Garston Warrior’ looked in fine fettle as he made his way to the final, improving his record to 26-6-1 when disposing of Michael Banbula and Menay Edwards.

However, he was forced to withdraw after a couple of deep cuts over his eye caused doctors some concern.

Those wounds will need time to heal, representing the only roadblock in discussions with the Norwich man, who is eager for the first defence of his title to happen as soon as possible.

‘Big Mac’ travelled to France in January, taking the belt from Thierry Karl in his own backyard.

He stopped the Frenchman with an 11th round TKO, bouncing back from defeat by Nathan Cleverly in 2009, with his 3rd win in a row – taking his record to 13-1.

McIntosh is the mandatory challenger to the winner of Tony Bellew’s Commonwealth and British light-heavyweight title clash with Ovill McKenzie on the 19th February.

But Dodson could usurp that position if he can overcome his 30-year-old counterpart.
