WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan has been told he “fights like an amateur” by Devon Alexander’s trainer, Kevin Cunningham.
‘Alexander the Great’ faces his compatriot Timothy Bradley on 29th January, when both fighters put their unbeaten records on the line at the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan.
However, trainer Cunningham is looking beyond that bout, and has fuelled talk of a dust-up between ‘King’ Khan and his protégé.
He said: “He fights like an amateur. He jumps in, throws combinations, and runs around the ring.
“That’s what Amir Khan does, there’s nothing hard to figure out about him.”
American TV network HBO are said to be keen on a fight between the two, but first up for the Olympic silver medallist is an April 16th homecoming at the M.E.N Arena.
Northern Ireland’s Paul McCloskey is likely to be announced as his opponent, amid reports a deal between the two camps is imminent.
