Paula Creamer is looking to pick up back-to-back major wins at Royal Birkdale.

The newly-crowned US Open champion is once again ready to defy a painful thumb injury to chase top honours in the Ricoh Women’s British Open at Royal Birkdale and become the first player to land successive majors since Annika Sorenstam in 2005.

She will be among the early starters tomorrow, teeing off at 7.15am alongside defending champion Catriona Matthew and the host club’s Florentyna Parker.

The 21-year-old is only in her second year as a professional, but has already won her maiden Ladies European Tour event in Holland to ensure she goes into her first of the four women’s majors – and the only one played in this country – in form.

Creamer, known as the Pink Panther for her love of a particular colour, was playing only her fourth tournament following surgery on her thumb when she won her first major, at Oakmont in Pennsylvania, after five years as a professional by finishing as the only player under par.
