Liverpool’s clash with Manchester United has avoided late postponement.

Heavy snow fell overnight across Merseyside and the North West, leaving the Premier League encounter at the mercy of the adverse weather conditions.

A local Safety Advisory Group, chaired by Liverpool City Council, held a meeting early on Sunday with the game provisionally set to go ahead.

The Reds later confirmed a second round of discussions held at midday concluded that the 4.30pm kick-off could still proceed as originally planned.

“Today’s Premier League fixture against Manchester United will go ahead as planned,” read a club statement.

“Two safety meetings were held earlier to assess the weather and travel conditions for the 4.30pm GMT kick-off at Anfield.

“We thank everyone involved in helping us to get this game on today.

“If you’re travelling to the stadium then please take extra care. We look forward to seeing you there.”
