Liverpool have rejected Real Madrid’s approach for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Alexander-Arnold continues to be linked with a move to the Bernabeu as one of three players in Arne Slot’s side set to become a free agent this summer.
But the reigning European champions’ attempts to sign the Reds’ vice-captain during the January window was swiftly rebuffed by club officials on Tuesday.
Anfield chiefs are understood to have taken a hard-line stance and did not offer their Spanish counterparts any encouragement or discuss figures.
It is also believed that Alexander-Arnold has shown no indication of a desire to leave his boyhood club despite the ongoing speculation around his future.
However he will be free to discuss a potential free transfer with foreign clubs from January 1, opening up the possibility of him still joining Los Blancos.
Negotiations remain ongoing with Alexander-Arnold’s representatives over a new deal while Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are also in contract talks.
