Alisson has urged Liverpool to create their own Premier League title history.

Arne Slot’s side are currently in the box seat for the Premier League after opening up a seven-point cushion with Thursday’s win over Leicester City.

They will see in a second New Year as top-flight leaders, having held a similar margin under Slot’s predecessor Jurgen Klopp at the same stage in 2019/20.

But Alisson believes that the Reds have to forge their own path in the pursuit of a 20th domestic crown rather than looking to their previous success.

He said: “I think it’s different players, different managers, a lot of more different things than similarities.

“Of course you’re going to find a lot of things. I think you from the press you know more about these kind of things and you look more for these kind of things.

“I believe we don’t have to compare ourselves with the teams in the past, we have to create our own history. This season, this group has to create its own history.

“With the players who came in, they brought a lot of quality, and what we are doing, what we can do.

“We’re not going to erase the things we did in the past that were really special and be always in the history of this club.”

The Brazil international recently returned to the fold after a two-month spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury picked up against Crystal Palace.

“It was not easy for me, but I worked really hard,” said Alisson.

“I was looking forward to coming back because when you are injured, these days you just don’t go there, put some ice on your legs and just wait until you’re fully recovered.

“You work so hard in the gym every day, sometimes double sessions, pretty much every day double sessions, doing treatment at home, having treatment at the club.

“So I spent a lot of time working without doing the best side of football, that is playing.

“I was looking forward to coming back, even because the team was doing so well, so you get even more excited to be part of it.”
