Maxi Rodriguez could in line for a shock return to La Liga following Roy Hodgson's appointment as Liverpool manager.
The 29-year-old arrived at Anfield in the January transfer window on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid and made 17 appearances in the second half of last season, despite being cup-tied for the Europa League, but could be in line for a season-long loan with former club RCD Espanyol.
Rodriguez is held in high esteem by the Barcelona-based club after making over 100 appearances for them between 2002 and 2005 prior to moving to the Vicente Calderon.
Liverpool currently have a wealth of wide players following the arrival of Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic which has seen Albert Riera and Yossi Benayoun leave the club for Olympiakos and Chelsea respectively.
Dirk Kuyt and Ryan Babel were utilised regularly as wingers under Hodgson's predecessor Rafael Benitez which could see them remaining at Anfield at the expense of Argentina international Rodriguez, who featured heavily in his country's run to the World Cup quarter finals.
