Roy Hodgson targets Manchester City's Wayne Bridge as next Liverpool FC left-back

Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge.

Fabio Aurelio left the club last month after failing to agree a new deal and the imminent sale of Emiliano Insua to Fiorentina means that Roy Hodgson is left with no first-choice left-back ahead of next Thursday's Europa League showdown with FC Rabotnicki.

Hodgson is looking at Bridge, 29, to fill the void with a deal for Wigan's Maynor Figueroa proving difficult whilst the Kop boss is reluctant to raid former club Fulham in a bid to secure Paul Konchesky's services following a gentleman's agreement with Mohamed Al-Fayed.

City are expected to be reluctant to sell the former Chelsea full-back, who is expected to fall down the pecking order with the impending arrival of Aleksander Kolarov from Lazio, to one of their rivals for Champions League qualification.

Bridge hit the headlines earlier this year after he announced international retirement at the end of February following revelations that his former girlfriend Vanessa Perroncel had been having an affair with his ex-Chelsea team mate and then England captain John Terry.
