The FA have decided not to charge Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard with unsportsmanlike conduct for a supposed V-sign gesture during his side's defeat to Wigan Athletic.
If found guilty, the Reds captain would have been handed a three-match ban after directing a two-fingered gesture in the direction of referee Andre Marriner during the 1-0 reversal at the DW Stadium.
However, the FA have confirmed that the 29-year-old will face no further action after receiving no report from match official Marriner about the incident.
Earlier, Rafael Benitez had earlier defended his skipper and insisted that Gerrard had no case to answer for the "nothing" gesture.
He said: "Sometimes you move your fingers. It was nothing. We are not considering it, it was nothing.
"All the players know they have to behave on the pitch. I was more worried about the silly fouls we were giving to Wigan."
