
The world's seventh richest man has denied reports that he is set to launch a bid to take control of Liverpool FC.
Mukesh Ambani had been linked with securing a deal to buy a 51% stake of the Reds by repaying the £237 million debts placed on the club by current owners George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks as part of their leveraged buyout of the Premier League outfit.
It is believed that Sahara Group chairman Subrata Roy would also be part of the joint venture with India's wealthiest man Ambani, who also owns Reliance Industries.
Last week it was revealed that the Liverpool board were urgently seeking £100 million investment to reduce the level of debt on a refinancing loan taken out by Gillett and Hicks with the Royal Bank of Scotland in January 2008.
Hicks is currently mulling over a decision whether to sell his controlling stake in American ice hockey team the Dallas Stars, The Texan recently agreed a deal to part company with the Texas Rangers baseball franchise for a reported $500 million but has no plans to reinvest his stock into the Anfield coffers.
