Eintracht Frankfurt have been forced to put a move for Liverpool's Andriy Voronin on hold over fears that they cannot afford the out-of-favour striker.
The Ukrainian forward is a Bundesliga veteran, having played for the likes of Borussia Moenchengladbach, Cologne and Bayer Leverkusen.
However a return to the German top flight no longer appears to be on the cards after Frankfurt's manager Michael Skibbe revealed that the club cannot afford a swoop for the 30-year-old in the January transfer window.
He said: “We have a shortage up front following the injuries to Ioannis Amanatidis and Martin Fenin.
“But I really do not think we are in a financial position to be able to afford a player like Andriy Voronin. I really do not think so.”
Voronin joined the Reds in the summer of 2007 but has failed to cement a place in the side. Despite an impressive loan spell with Hertha Berlin last season, he has found himself behind David Ngog in the Anfield pecking order.
