Fernando Torres is facing a race against time to be fit for Liverpool's Merseyside derby clash with Everton at the end of the month.
The talismanic Spaniard netted twice against the Blues in last season's Merseyside derby at Goodison Park but is struggling to regain fitness for the game on November 29.
This week Torres, 25, began a course of treatment to correct the abdominal injury, commonly known as a "sportsman's hernia", which is expected to keep him sidelined for three weeks.
However Kop boss Rafael Benitez could include his compatriot for the trip across Stanley Park depending on how much his rehabilitation progresses with physios at the club's Melwood training ground.
He said: "We are talking about two or three weeks of treatment and working with the physios.
"I was talking with him this morning and he is doing well. Hopefully he can be running in a few days and we will see how he progresses."
