Football fans across the country are celebrating a new book by Peter Hooton, the lead singer of pop group The Farm.
When Football Was Football is a pictorial guide to over a century of Liverpool Football Club.
Peter was granted access to the Daily Mirror's extensive picture archive and hand picked hundreds of images to document the history of the country's most successful club.
From the club's early foundations to the first real success brought under the guidence of Bill Shankly and a Merseybeat inspired Kop to the tragedies of Heysel and Hillsborough, the club's unique history all is covered.
It's a story that the author is more than adept to tell. Hooton is an Anfield season ticket holder and is an adversary of traditional football.
Peter ran the seminal magazine The End in the 1980s, which set the blue print for football fanzines ever since. More recently he has been involved in the Liverpool Supporters Union' the evocatively named Spirit of Shankly group.
He said: "It was a time when football was regarded as a more honest game. I hope people enjoy it and I believe there is something in there for everyone.
"With hundreds of photos and a tome of accompanying text undoubtedly is."
When Football Was Football is an on going series that has already seen similar books on Manchester United and Arsenal published, but it is this Liverpool one that has garnered the most attention.
Months of painstaking research and effort went into the final product.
He added: “I spent a lot of time down in Watford researching it and looking at negatives but it didn’t feel like work. The archive is incredible with around sixty million photos.
“I had around 8,000 photos to choose from and the most difficult part was deciding what to leave out. I tried to pack in as many as I could and the pictures really tell the story of the the past 100 years".
