Reports in Spain are suggesting that Real Madrid will make an improved bid for Xabi Alonso, with Liverpool being offered one of their players in a part-exchange deal.
The Reds have set Los Blancos a deadline of Monday night to either wrap up the signature of the playmaker or end their pursuit of him which has lasted an entire summer after the midfielder submitted a transfer request earlier this week.
It is believed that Liverpool have demanded a basic fee of €35 million, payable immediately, which could rise to €40 million based on how Alonso's career at the Bernabeu pans out.
Real have refused to increase their original bid of €25 million but are expected to give Rafael Benitez the opportunity to bring either Alvaro Negredo, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar or Rafael van der Vaart to Anfield in a part-exchange deal for Alonso.
Spanish daily AS claims that Benitez is keen to draft in a striker to play alongside Fernando Torres up front which would make €15 million-rated Negredo and out-of-favour Huntlaar the ideal candidates should the Spaniard accept Real's part-ex offer.
