Reds Sign Alonso Replacement?

An Italian newspaper is claiming that Liverpool have agreed a five-year deal with Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani.

According to Il Messaggero, the Italian international has signed a deal that will net him €4 million per season but that negotiations between the Reds and Aquilani's current club AS Roma have yet to begin with Xabi Alonso's future at Anfield still uncertain. The Spaniard submitted a transfer request to the club yesterday after continued interest from Real Madrid.

Last summer Aquilani signed a new deal with the Serie A giants that would keep him in the Italian capital until June 2013 but it is believed that president Rosella Sensi will sanction the sale of the 25-year-old in the hope that it will help ease the club's financial plight.
