Jamie Carragher says that Liverpool's pre-season tour of the Far East has improved their fitness greatly.
The Reds spent a week touring Asia and Carra believes that the humid climate in Thailand and Singapore had a knock-on effect on the team's performance.
The veteran defender said: "The main thing at this stage is getting fitness and coming out here and playing in these conditions has definitely helped.
Vice-captain Carragher played in Sunday's 5-0 trouncing of Singapore and lifted the Lion Cup in the absence of skipper Steven Gerrard but said that he would prefer the midfielder to be picking up the real trophies come the end of the 2009/10 season.
"Having not won any of our first three games it was nice to get a win (against Singapore) and score a few for the supporters," he continued.
"It was just a great way to end the trip. It's been brilliant and the support we have here is just amazing. It has grown even more since the last time we were here.
"Hopefully Stevie will be the one picking up trophies when the real stuff is handed out in 10 months."
