Javier Mascherano's Anfield future has been thrown into further doubt after Barcelona vice-president Rafael Yuste described the player as 'fantastic'.
The Liverpool midfielder has been linked with a move to the European champions and has made no secret of his desire to join the Catalan giants but Yuste - in London yesterday to see Barca play in the Wembley Cup - said that although he was a keen admirer of the player, that no bid was being prepared by the Nou Camp club.
"I can confirm that Javier Mascherano is a fantastic player that personally I like a lot," he said.
"But we have not listed (him).
"We have a lot of players who want to come to Barcelona. Mascherano is a fantastic player, of course, but he is today at Liverpool and he's playing very well.
"The future we cannot predict. We are just here today attending the match. He's a nice player - yes."
