Jay Spearing has vowed to reward the faith shown in him by Rafael Benitez by earning more appearances at the club.

The 20-year-old signed a new three-year deal earlier this month and is using the Reds' pre-season tour of Asia as a springboard to breaking into the first team.

“It was such a great experience to come over here and play in a stadium like that with such an amazing atmosphere," he said.

“I know this tour is my opportunity to show the boss what I’m capable of.

“Hopefully I’ve shown him enough up until now and I’ve got to keep it going.

“By giving me that new deal it shows he’s got faith in me and that means a lot.

“The aim for me now is more involvement in the first team. I’ve played in the Champions League but I want to get some league experience.”
