Liverpool FC's Fabio Borini set to make injury return next week

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed Fabio Borini will begin his injury comeback next week.

A fractured foot while on international duty with Italy in November saw the striker sidelined just four months into his Anfield career, following a £10.5million move from AS Roma last summer.

Rodgers expects Borini, 21, to begin training again in the next seven days, which will help strengthen Liverpool's attacking options on the back of Daniel Sturridge's arrival from Chelsea.

He said: "We've got players coming back now, which is great.

"Having Daniel come in the door and Fabio Borini returning from injury will be great for us and that'll give us the flexibility within the group."

The Kop boss also says that Joe Cole's return to West Ham United was a move that was beneficial for all parties after the 31-year-old rejoined his former club this morning on a free transfer following an unsuccessful two-and-a-half years at Anfield, during which he made just 26 league appearances.

"I think for both parties it was the best solution," said Rodgers.

"It hasn't quite worked out for Joe here. If you're 31 years of age [and] you've had the career that he's had, you don't really want to be sitting on the bench at Liverpool. But he hasn't been an ounce of a problem for me at all

"I've known Joe a long time and I wish him well. It's been a difficult period for him, both professionally and personally, but he's going back home and I'd like to wish him all the very best and his family. I'm sure he'll go there and do very well."
