Liverpool FC make late move for Arsenal target Sahin as Allen frustrations grow

Liverpool have focused their attention on Nuri Sahin as progress on a deal for Joe Allen deal has stalled.

The Real Madrid midfielder has emerged on the Anfield club's radar with Swansea City this week attempting to drag their heels over Allen's impending move to Merseyside.

The Welsh club had agreed a deal in principle, worth an initial £13.5 million, which would see Allen reunited with former manager Brendan Rodgers.

However Swans boss Michael Laudrup's public attempt to tout a £20 million valuation for the 22-year-old, who returned to training on Monday after representing Team GB at the Olympics, has prompted his predecessor to consider moving for Sahin as a back up option.

The Emirates Stadium remains Sahin's preferred destination for a loan deal, with Tottenham refusing to allow him to be used as a makeweight in any move for midfielder Luka Modric.

But Rodgers is hoping his relationship with Bernabeu chief Jose Mourinho, dating back to their time at Chelsea, will prove a catalyst in securing a temporary switch for the 23-year-old.

Sahin finds himself massively down the pecking order for Real Madrid, with the likes of former Liverpool playmaker Xabi Alonso, Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira and Lassana Diarra all comfortably staking a claim ahead of him.

He was restricted to just five appearances for the reigning Spanish champions last season and Mourinho is eager that the Turkish international gains the necessary experience required for him to step into the breach for in the long-term.

Rodgers has made no secret of his plans to utilise the loan market this summer and last week revealed that he had spoken to 'European managers' about the possibility of brokering deals.

With Fabio Borini constituting the club's solitary arrival in this transfer window, Reds chiefs are keen to make further additions before the new Barclays Premier League season starts in 10 days' time and Sahin would prove a capable option in addition to a stellar name to excite fans.

A move for Clint Dempsey does not appear forthcoming despite the American remaining in London after refusing to participate in Fulham's pre season training camp in Switzerland.

But Wolves goalkeeper Dorus de Vries, 31, does remain on Liverpool's radar with Alexander Doni and Brad Jones both expected to seal their departures before the August 31 deadline.
