Alan Pardew admits he is "slightly detached" from Newcastle's plans to re-sign Andy Carroll.
Liverpool rejected the Magpies' approach last weekend to loan the striker they sold for £35million last year with him seemingly surplus to requirements under Brendan Rodgers.
The Reds are said to be holding out for £20million as they look to recoup a significant chunk of the outlay for their record signing, who is keen on a return to his native North East.
But Newcastle boss Pardew admits that he would relish a return of his former number nine but revealed that the dealings rest with owner Mike Ashley and the St James Park hierarchy.
"That whole process is a little bit more involved with the chairman and the board at Liverpool," he told the Newcastle Chronicle.
"We've got a great team here, a great squad, and if Andy Carroll comes it'll only add to us."
He added: "It's been said that he's available and if we're involved then we'll be involved because of the figures, not anything else, because we know he's good enough.
"I'm slightly detached from it."
