Liverpool have seen their bid for Gylfi Sigurdsson hijacked by Tottenham Hotspur.
The Icelandic midfielder was likely to be reunited with former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers at Anfield but has instead opted to join the manager-less North London club, according to reports in Germany.
Sigurdsson spent last season on loan at the Liberty Stadium, where he gained acclaim for his performances in Rodgers' side, whose attractive style of play took the Premier League by surprise.
Hoffenheim last week handed the 22-year-old an extended leave period to secure a permanent move to England and Spurs will finalise a deal before that deadline, which is due to expire this Saturday.
