Martin Skrtel is keen to open fresh contract talks with Liverpool amid interest from Manchester City.
The Slovakian defender was considered the Reds' best players last season but was understood to have been considering his options following their failure to secure Champions League qualification.
City have been eyeing the centre-back with intent as they prepare to defend their Premier League crown, which has handed new Kop boss Brendan Rodgers the first real test of his Anfield reign.
And Skrtel's agent Karol Cstonto has revealed that his client is keen to seek assurances of the club's ambitions ahead of the new campaign in addition to agreeing a new deal.
He said: "Some changes have been made at the club and he wants to know what the aims and ambitions are.
And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin's new contract.
"Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven't made the Champions League this year doesn't mean they would not do it next year.
"There are expectations on both sides, though."
