Alberto Aquilani will return to Liverpool after failing to secure a permanent move to Italy.
The midfielder's future has remained undecided following an unsuccessful debut season at Anfield and looks set to remain on the club's books for the foreseeable future.
Aquilani had hoped to secure a return to his homeland after two successive season-long loan spells, with Juventus and AC Milan respectively, but neither club was keen to press ahead with a permanent deal to end the 27-year-old's miserable three-year spell as a Reds player.
Franco Zavaglia, who represents the former Roma playmaker, has dismissed reports his client was planning to buy out his Liverpool contract, which has two years remaining, and claims that a lack of interest will force him to return to Merseyside at the start of next month.
"Almost certainly he will not terminate his contract with Liverpool,' he told Sportitalia.
"He could join them at the beginning of July to start pre-season training with the English club.
