Liverpool would choose securing Champions League qualification over winning the Carling Cup, according to Craig Bellamy.

The Reds go into this weekend's final at Wembley four points adrift of the Premier League's qualificaton places for Europe's premier club competition and ahead of an FA Cup quarter final.

Stoke City are all that stand between Kenny Dalglish's side and a return to the national stadium but Bellamy feels that, given the choice, Liverpool would sacrifice silverware for a return the Champions League, and expects that Sunday's opponents Cardiff City would too in favour of promotion.

He said: "They have promotion to go for, we have Champions League to go for. We're still in the FA Cup. Both teams have got so much to play for this season.

"Would we choose Champions League over Carling Cup? I think we would. Would Cardiff choose entering the Premier League over the Carling Cup? I think they would as well.

"Cup competitions are a big bonus really but we are looking at Champions League and maybe a win might help us and push us towards what we aim to achieve."
