Luis Suarez has publicly apologised for refusing to shake Patrice Evra's hand during yesterday's clash between Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Uruguayan snubbed the United captain as they came face to face for the first time since Suarez was found guilty of racially abusing his French counterpart four months ago.
Suarez served an eight-game ban for the incident in October following a Football Association investigation and was making his first start since the suspension in the 2-1 defeat.
Kenny Dalglish insisted earlier this week that the Reds striker would 'draw a line' under the matter by agreeing to shake hands with the defender during the showdown meeting.
Evra attempted to remonstrate with the Reds striker as he was ignored during the pre-match custom but today conceded that he should not have acted in the manner which he did.
He said: "I have spoken with the manager since the game at Old Trafford and I realise I got things wrong.
"I've not only let him down, but also the club and what it stands for and I'm sorry. I made a mistake and I regret what happened.
"I should have shaken Patrice Evra's hand before the game and I want to apologise for my actions.
"I would like to put this whole issue behind me and concentrate on playing football."
