Kenny Dalglish insists that Liverpool's players will be giving their all against Manchester City in a bid to atone for the 3-1 defeat to Bolton.
Anfield's 'twelfth man' is traditionally called upon for the second leg of cup ties and tomorrow night's Carling Cup semi-final should have been no different given a slightly precarious one-goal advantage.
But last Saturday's reversal to relegation candidates Bolton triggered a hard-line stance from Dalglish, who warned the Reds' squad that repeat performances will not be taken lightly.
And the Kop boss has told his players that the expectancy on the club's loyal fans to help see them through the clash with the Premier League leaders has to be reciprocated on the pitch.
He said: "We have a slight advantage, we just need to go into the game and compete. It's not going to be a game that's going to be anything other than really difficult for us.
"They got a fantastic result on Sunday against Tottenham which keeps them at the top of the league, so I'm sure they'll be well up for it.
"For us it's important to do our own job, and if we do that then a wee bit of luck as well wouldn't go amiss.
"Hopefully it will be a fantastic occasion for everyone. The punters will be turning up, there'll be loads of support for us but we need to do something that's going to get the supporters on our side. We can't always leave it for them to lift us, sometimes we need to lift them.
"We can't take it for granted that the fans are going to be there. We should never assume we're going to get the fantastic support that we do - we've got to earn that.
"They've got to see that we're up to put in a tremendous effort on Wednesday night to get a result for the club."
