Liverpool will add to their burgeoning youth set-up with the capture of João Carlos Teixeira.

A deal in the region of £1million has been agreed with Sporting Lisbon for the 19-year-old playmaker, who scored against the Reds' youngsters in the NextGen Series.

His performance in an impressive Sporting side which ran out 3-0 winners at Anfield last August caught the eye of observing Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish.

Since his starring role at Anfield, João Carlos has trained with the Portuguese outfit's first team but has yet to make a senior appearance.

Sporting, who count Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo among the gradutes of their revered academy, have agreed a deal for the teenager in a bid to alleviate their financial woes.
