Liverpool remain hopeful of redeveloping their current Anfield home

Liverpool's owners have reverted to plans commissioned by former chief executive Rick Parry as they prepare to end the ongoing saga surrounding their future stadium.

Fenway Sports Group (FSG) have returned to designs ordered by the former Reds chief, who left the club at the end of the 2008-09 season, for a site in nearby Stanley Park.

The Americans continue to favour plans to redevelop their current Anfield home but the current stand-off with Liverpool City Council over the issue has forced a rethink on the issue.

A move to Stanley Park has been on the cards for over a decade and the designs submitted by architects AFL back in 2000 have emerged as the blueprint for Liverpool's new stadium.

It means the Manchester-based firm's plans, which had already been cleared for planning permission by the council, has seen those commissioned by former owner Tom Hicks scrapped.

The Texan demanded a redesign of the stadium following his and George Gillett's takeover of the club in 2007 but the estimated costs of £400million meant that it has a non-starter.

AFL's design would see Liverpool boast a capacity of 60,000 - approximately 15,000 more than the current Anfield - and allow the club the ability to sell naming rights for their new home.

60k still is too small for us & additional £350+mn only for 15k more seats make no sense. We should go for a 75~80k ground for £400mn
