Oldham captain Dean Furman has slammed the abuse Tom Adeyemi received from some Liverpool fans last night as a 'disgrace'.
The 20-year-old defender was seen taking offence to an intense barracking from a minority of supporters stationed in the Kop during the 80th minute of the Reds' 5-1 win.
Liverpool and Merseyside Police have both confirmed that they are investigating the matter but insisted that no one was arrested for racially aggravated offences at the FA Cup tie.
Latics captain Furman could not verify the context of the insults aimed at Adeyemi but has condemned the actions and insist that they have no place in today's game.
"He was abused and I'll leave it to Tom and the police to investigate that," he told BBC Radio Manchester.
"What happened should not happen in the game. It has been highlighted over the last few months and it is an absolute disgrace."
He added: "It is difficult for me to say anything. When one of your boys is down like that we all feel it. Tom, the authorities and police will sort out the situation.
"I hope the authorities take heavy action because it was a disgrace.
"A lot of credit goes to Tom for the way he handled the situation."
