Aston Villa have insisted that they will not "entertain" the possibility of selling Darren Bent.
Liverpool last week made a preliminary enquiry for the striker, who arrived at Villa Park barely 12 months ago, as they look to remedy their lack of clinical edge in front of goal.
Bent is widely expected to be sacrificed during the current transfer window as Alex McLeish looks to generate funds to strengthen his squad before the end of the month.
However the Villa boss has dismissed that any contact has taken place with the Reds and maintains that the Midlands club have no intention of offloading the 27-year-old.
He said: "We've not heard a thing from Liverpool. I'm aware of the speculation, but there has been no contact with this club and I think you've had three parties telling you that.
"But, even if there was contact, we would not entertain that. We wouldn't want to entertain selling our top scorer of last season. He is a prolific marksman."
