Kenny Dalglish believes that less could mean more for Liverpool in light of their win over Newcastle.
A second-half Steven Gerrard cameo inspired the Reds to a 3-1 victory over their fellow challengers for a top four finish as they scored more than two goals for the first time since August.
It was also the first time Liverpool had won a game since conceding the first goal since a 3-1 margin over Bolton on New Years' Day this year, thanks to goals from the captain and a Craig Bellamy brace.
And Dalglish feels that the fact that Liverpool created fewer chances against the Magpies compared to previous opponents at Anfield may have proven a factor in ending the calendar year on a high.
He said: "I'm delighted for Steven coming on and scoring a goal. It's a great reward for him and everyone that's helped him to get back to the level he's at at the moment.
"We've had a good night and probably the game itself was the game where we made the least chances.at home but scored three goals so maybe that's something we can learn from - make less chances, score more goals."
Bellamy took his record against his former club to five goals in four previous outings and Dalglish expects Liverpool to reap the rewards of the veteran's exploits until the end of the campaign.
"We said at the beginning [of the season] that he was a fantastic signing for us and I'm sure that the wee man has got a few more nights left in him between now and the end of the season," he added.
"It was a great reward for him to get two goals. He took the first one well in a crowded goalmouth and bent a free kick in [for the second].
"Throughout the game he was a thorn in their side and he was unfortunate to come off with a really bad cut on his eye."
