Liverpool FC set to take on third American starlet

Liverpool will add another American starlet to their ranks, albeit temporarily.

Juan Agudelo will spend a fortnight at the club's Melwood training ground, training under the gaze of Kenny Dalglish, as he prepares to maintain his fitness during the MLS close season.

The Colombia-born hit man is already a senior international for the United States and is currently Thierry Henry's understudy at the New York Red Bulls, where has largely been an impact player.

Reports in the US suggest that the inexperienced 19-year-old has not travelled for a trial, making it highly unlikely that a deal would be struck to make him the third American player at the club after striker Villyan Bijev, currently on loan at Fortuna Dusseldorf, and midfielder Marc Pelosi.

David Beckham's previous training spells with Arsenal and Tottenham during the MLS off-season are understood to have proven a factor in Agudelo's decision to embark on a brief stint in England.

Liverpool, meanwhile, will take on Manchester City in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup.

Dalglish's side face a trip to the Etihad Stadium on the week commencing January 9, 2011 with the return leg taking place at Anfield a fortnight later.

It will be Liverpool's second trip to East Manchester in the space of a week, with the corresponding Premier League fixture due to take place on January 3.
