Kenny Dalglish has paid tribute to Wales manager Gary Speed following his tragic death.

The Liverpool manager signed the midfielder during his time at Newcastle and expressed his shock at the 42-year-old being found at his home in Huntington, Chester on Sunday morning.

Welsh international Craig Bellamy was withdrawn from the Reds' 1-1 draw with Manchester City after the news broke and Dalglish has led the tributes to Speed following his passing.

He said: "The news is sad because he was a good footballer, but more importantly he was a good fella.

"The people who's affected worse will be his wife and his two young boys. Your heart goes out to them right now.

"He's got a lot of friends in the game. I'm sure his wife's made a lot of friends through football with Gary. Everybody would be there to help as best as they possibly could.

"I just hope that they're not shy in asking because anything they want that they feel would lessen the pain a little bit, they just need to pick up the phone."
