Liverpool appear to be a step closer to finally landing Charlie Adam after Blackpool confirmed that they have held preliminary discussions over a deal for the midfielder.
Tensions between the two clubs became frayed during the January transfer window after the Tangerines, then in the Premier League, rejected three bids by the Reds for Adam as they fell short of their £12million valuation for the player.
Ian Holloway publicly lambasted Liverpool for tabling what he believed were "derisory" and "disgraceful" offers for the 25-year-old whilst the Scot's father, also named Charlie, hit back at the Bloomfield Road outfit for acting like "cheapskates" in negotiations.
But Blackpool's swift return to The Championship has seen discussions between the sides become more cordial with chairman Karl Oyston revealing that talks have taken place with a number of clubs, with Tottenham and Aston Villa both believed to be still interested in Adam.
He said: “We’ve had a few discussions this summer but nothing conclusive so really there is nothing to report.
“Are the reports wide of the mark? I’m sure that football clubs have talks with lots of players all summer that they probably shouldn’t do.
“I’m sure that goes on. If January is anything to go by that is certainly the case.
“It is always difficult [when speculation starts].”
Managerless Villa, meanwhile, are threatening to trump Liverpool to the capture of Birmingham defender Scott Dann after Alex McLeish's resignation from St Andrews.
Stoke City and West Brom have also emerged as outside challengers in the hunt for the 24-year-old, who remains determined to join his boyhood club despite interest from Arsenal.
But the Blues' £10million valuation for the centre-back continues to prove a sticking point for the Reds.
