Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has downplayed suggestions of the club ending their 21-year wait for the Premier League this season.
Roy Hodgson's side are aiming for a return to Champions League following their failure to qualify with a seventh-place finish in the previous campaign, which ultimately resulted in Rafael Benitez's departure, despite pressure from free-spending Manchester City.
Carragher, who was an ever-present in the side that finished runners-up in 2009, insists that Liverpool have the potential to collect silverware this season but feels that delivering Anfield's first domestic crown since 1990 will be highly difficult.
He said: "People have said 'You've done this and that for Liverpool' but we've not won a trophy for four years and that is annoying me a little bit.
"I certainly don't want to go on another couple of years not winning one before I finish at Liverpool.
"I don't see any reason why we can't win a trophy this season or the next couple.
"The one I haven't won is the league but I suppose that will be very difficult this season going from seventh last season.
"But I see no reason why we can't have a good go and have a trip to Wembley."
