Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has warned that he will one day reveal the truth behind his decision to leave Liverpool.
Fresh from dismissing that his family's unhappiness was a key motivation in his decision to quit England, the Argentina captain, 26, has vowed to lift the lid on his acrimonious Anfield departure and insists that former manager Roy Hodgson is aware of what details he will reveal.
Mascherano also claims that Liverpool denied him a dream move to the Catalan giants but allowed Xabi Alonso to leave the club to join Real Madrid, Barca's fierce La Liga rivals.
"Roy Hodgson knows the truth. This is a happy moment for me so now is not the time to say it, but a lot of lies have been told about me and I will respond to them," he said.
"Last year Liverpool would not let me leave. There was no way they would sell me. They had Xabi Alonso and me, and they would only let Xabi leave.
"I was disappointed not to be able to sign last season. When the best club in the world calls you, then it is something that you want to happen."
Inter MIlan had considered a move for Mascherano prior to his Nou Camp switch but the midfielder insists that whilst he has a lot of respect for Rafael Benitez, he never considered a move to the European champions as he was determined to only join Barcelona.
He added: "I have signed for the only club who really wanted me. In no moment did I ever think that Inter was a possibility.
"Rafa valued me and perhaps that is why people started saying that I could go there but this is the only club that pushed to sign me."
